This policy briefs is informed by the situational analysis on women participation in politics conducted by Padare/Enkundleni Men’s Forum on Gender in May 2020. The brief will discuss the challenges, lessons learnt, good practises and recommendations to increase women political participation. Politics in this brief is applied broadly to refer to leadership and decision-making positions in public office and private office. Cette note politique s'appuie sur l'analyse de la situation de la participation des femmes à la politique menée par le Forum Padare/Enkundleni Forum des hommes sur le genre en mai 2020. La note traite des défis, des leçons apprises, des bonnes pratiques et des recommandations pour accroître la participation des femmes à la vie politique. Dans ce dossier, le terme "politique" est appliqué au sens large pour désigner les postes de direction et de décision dans les fonctions publiques et privées.

Situational Analysis of Women’s Political Participation in Zimbabwe

The state of women’s political participation in Zimbabwe is undesirable, an anti-thesis to the country’s development. Despite proclaiming a Constitutional democracy, there are contestations, contradictions and complexities regarding how women are participating in various sectors of the political landscape. The data in this study shows that women are underrepresented across the executive, cabinet, legislature, judiciary, traditional leadership, public sector and private sector. Women continued to encounter a myriad of long established challenges and emerging ones that continue to define or mis-define their political participation.
