Selon le premier Baromètre sur la Participation Politique des Femmes en Afrique 2021 (PPF), les femmes représentent 24 % des 12 113 parlementaires en Afrique - 25 % dans les chambres basses et 20 % dans les chambres hautes du Parlement. Alors que les collectivités locales/administrations régionales sont souvent
considérées comme le terrain d'entraînement pour les femmes en politique, elles ne constituent que 21 % des conseillères dans 19 pays pour lesquels des données ont pu être recueillies.

Advancing women’s political participation is crucial for delivering on all SDGs. Women’s equal and meaningful participation at all levels of decision-making is specifically articulated in Target 5.5 and Target 16.7. These targets call upon states to and I quote: “Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life” and to “Ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels”.
The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) is a membership-based Pan-African nongovernmental organization, led by African women working for equality and equity in education across the continent. With headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, FAWE works across the continent in 33 countries with a mission to promote gender equity and equality in education in Africa by fostering positive policies, practices and attitudes towards girls’ education.
